Periquita Red 2021

Periquita wine is known as the first red wine bottled in Portugal. This innovation reflects its originality and the reflection of Portugality arises from its presence at the table of the Portuguese – of all of us – since 1850. Ours, the Portuguese lifestyle!

The wine produced in Cova da Periquita soon proved to be the best in the region, leading other owners to ask José Maria da Fonseca for plants of that variety for their own properties. In this way, the wine became known in Azeitão as Periquita wine, starting to be marketed by José Maria da Fonseca as Periquita.

As for the tasting notes, this is recognized for its red color, presenting an aroma of blackberries, blueberries and black plums, obtaining a palate with the presence of a lot of fruit, smooth and well-integrated tannins, which gives it a medium finish.

This wine is tanned at 28ºC, aging for 6 months in French and American oak (new wood).

In order to enjoy this magnificent wine in its magnitude, it should be served at a temperature of 16ºC, ideal to accompany meat, game and intensely flavored cheese dishes.
