Alvarinho Granit

The name of this wine - "Granit" – is very appropriate because it is very mineral, with discreet fruit notes and vibrant acidity, revealing this different and unusual dimension of a Alvarinho mountain. Its acidity and elegance make water grow in the mouth and make this Soalheiro Granit a very gastronomic wine.

Granit is made with Alvarinho grapes from a specific selection of small vineyards planted in granite soil, currently, at around 400 meters of altitude in sub-region of Monção and Melgaço. The taller the vines, the fruitier side from Alvarinho gives way to notes of acidity and minerality. The plots are chosen due to minerality and lower fertility of the soil, leading the roots of the Alvarinho vines to sink deeper into the mountainside to find nutrients.

The grapes are harvested by hand. After pressing, before fermentation, the must is clarified. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a higher temperature than usual in white wines (22°C), ensuring that the fruity nature of Alvarinho does not it covers up the delicate minerality we are looking for in this wine. Bâtonnage and the internship on the fine lees, they improve the structure of the wine, before it is bottled.

Bright lemon yellow color, elegant aroma marked by mineral notes. Dry taste and persistent, revealing the more mineral side of the Alvarinho grape variety. There is a feeling of salinity on the palate that reflects the impact of granite soils in Alvarinho.

Due to its mineral character and lively acidity, Soalheiro Granit is especially suited to goes well with Mediterranean cuisine: seafood, grilled fish, roasted fatty fish. Also pairs well with white meats, smoked meats, cured cheese and with dishes delicate dishes from Asian cuisine, such as sushi or dim sum’s.
