Hexagon 2015 Red

There are six generations of descendants of Mr. José Maria da Fonseca and six grape varieties that make it up: Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Trincadeira, Tinto Cão, Touriga Francesa and Tannat. The marriage of these six grape varieties gives the wine a unique complexity, as well as an intense ruby colour and a dense, closed aroma. It is a red with very well integrated tannins and a long finish.

Hexagon, José Maria da Fonseca's “top of the range” wine, is the culmination of all the work carried out in the vineyard and in the winery and the celebration of the “New World” concept developed by winemaker Domingos Soares Franco, who has long wanted to a great Portuguese wine at the best style and international level.

In the current harvest, 11,809 bottles were bottled in the traditional format, and 305 magnum bottles, given the aging potential of this wine. Of this limited production, only around 9,125 liters were produced.

As for the tasting notes, this is recognised for its deep red colour, presenting an aroma of red fruits, wood, violets and tobacco leaf, combined with a very round palate with wood, obtaining an elegant finish.

The grapes are crushed in a stainless steel mill where they are fermented at a temperature of 27ºC for around 6 days. Alcoholic fermentation ends in oak casks where the wine remains on fine lees for around 3 months. During this period, the bâtonnage is done. After the first racking, the wine returns to the same casks. At the end of this stage, which takes the necessary time, another racking is carried out, followed immediately by bottling, without filtration or stabilisation. This wine ages in half new French oak barrels for 10 months.

To be fully enjoyed, this wine should be served at a temperature of 14ºC and consumed at a temperature of 16ºC, after decanting, accompanied by game products and cheese. It should be noted that with age, it is possible for this wine to develop deposits.
