Periquita Superior 2017
- Description
The history of Periquita dates back to the beginning of José Maria da Fonseca's own history, when the company's founder, Mr. José Maria da Fonseca, purchased, around 1846, the Cova da Periquita property. It was on this property, nowadays almost swallowed up by urban development, that José Maria da Fonseca planted the first grapes of the Castelão variety, which he himself had brought from the province of Ribatejo.
The wine produced in Cova da Periquita soon proved to be the best in the region, leading other owners to ask José Maria da Fonseca for sticks of that variety to plant on their own properties. In this way, the wine became known in Azeitão as Periquita wine, starting to be marketed by José Maria da Fonseca as Periquita.
Periquita Superyor is an elegant wine with striking aromas. This red is a tribute to the happy encounter between the Castelão grape variety and the Setúbal Peninsula.
As for the tasting notes, this is recognized for its ruby color, presenting an elegant aroma with a very interesting interaction between the notes of wood and the sweet aroma of licorice, obtaining a taste of black fruit, forest, licorice with very elegant tannins with a long and distinct aftertaste, which gives it a long aftertaste.
This wine is fermented in 3000 kg lagares, with some stemming at 28ºC, and its aging lasts 10 months in new French oak casks.
In order to enjoy this magnificent wine in its magnitude, it should be served at a temperature of 14/16ºC, ideal for accompanying meat and cheese dishes.
